Product Description

One of the most beautiful depictions of sunrise in all music forms is the introduction to Mascagni’s opera Iris (pronounced in the Italian way, as ‘ee-ris’ rather that the English way). The libretto for this lovely opera, by Luigi Illica, contains a description of this transition from night to day, telling how the first uncertain rays of light touch the tiny garden of the heroine of the opera, the young Iris, and how the flowers in her garden, like inquisitive children, raise their tiny faces from the shelter of the petals and slowly turn to face the east.
